Welcome to my ‘2018 LifeLink Day for Catholic Schools’ initiative

LifeLink Day 2018 will officially be launched on Wednesday 6 June 2018 during WA Week.

It is appropriate that during this week of celebrating what is great about our State, that we focus on and remember people in need within the community – our ‘brothers and sisters’ right here ‘at home’ in WA.

LifeLink Day provides a wonderful opportunity for students attending Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Perth, to join together to show their collective support for the many Church social service agencies – agencies which on behalf of us all, reach out to provide practical care and direct assistance to thousands of people in need within the community each year.

We don’t ask why people are in need; we don’t ask them to explain them to explain how; we don’t judge them nor do we condemn them. We simply say, “Here’s someone in need; here’s someone who is finding life a real struggle at the moment; here’s someone who has the same hopes and dreams as we do, but whose life hasn’t worked out the way they would have hoped – and we ask ‘How can I help’.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS

For LifeLink Day 2018, I am asking Archdiocesan primary schools to enthusiastically participate in and support a new and exciting project in this special ‘Year of Youth’.

With your help, our project this year will include the involvement of our parishes and parishioners – strengthening the link between Catholic education and Catholic faith.

LifeLink Day 2018 Primary CardYou will be asked to make a gold coin donation to design a card, which will eventually be distributed to parishioners attending Mass at your local parish when my annual ‘Christmas Appeal for LifeLink’ is held later during the year.

The card will convey your understanding of the work of one of the LifeLink agencies, and carry a message from you to someone in need in the community. You might decide to include a drawing or a written message or a prayer or poem…it’s up to you!

I am looking forward to see where your creativity takes you.

Representatives from every primary school have been invited to join Bishop Sproxton and me for the Official Launch of LifeLink Day on Wednesday 6 June 2018.

LifeLink Day 2018 Primary BoxAt the launch, we will collect and display boxes received from each school, which will contain cards from each school’s students.

Your cards will then be sent to parishes and distributed to parishioners.

It will be a powerful reminder that we work together, as one Catholic family, to reach out to our brothers and sisters in need… and in doing so, we express our Faith and truly walk in the footsteps of the Good Shepherd.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS

More than 25 secondary schools (230 students, principals, teachers and special guests) attended my 2018 Archbishop’s Forum for Secondary Schools at Aranmore College on Tuesday 20 March 2018.

Thank you all for such a wonderful response. Bishop Don and I were delighted to welcome all of you to this event and to have the opportunity of speaking with you, and listening to you.

We hope that every student representative returned to their school and shared their experience with fellow students and teachers… helping to spread the good news about LifeLink and LifeLink Day.

I wish you and your school every success and thanks for supporting LifeLink Day 2018.
