2015 Christmas Appeal
The Archbishop’s Christmas Appeal for LifeLink 2015
The Archbishop's message this year focuses on Pope Francis announcement of the Jubilee Year of Mercy which commences on 8 December 2015. In his appeal letter, Archbishop Costelloe writes:
"In his letter announcing the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis begins with a simple but very significant statement:
Jesus Christ is the face of the Father's mercy.
Such a bold statement can help us unravel the mystery of Jesus. It can help us understand what lies at the heart of both His mission and His message. For this reason it can help us understand our own mission as Christians, for we are disciples and it is our task to be instruments of Jesus as he continues, in our own time, to reveal the mercy of the Father to us.
In other words we too, in Jesus, are called to be the face of the mercy of God.
As Christmas approaches we might ask ourselves what we can do to bring the mercy of God into the lives of those around us".
Archbishop Costelloe also draws on the parable of the Good Samaritan.
"Jesus praises the Good Samaritan and makes the point that his actions should be an example we all should follow. At the heart of the story is the fact that, in Jesus' words, the Samaritan was moved with compassion. We are asked by Jesus to do the same. To be moved with compassion".
On the weekend of Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November 2015 specially commissioned Parish Appeal Representatives will hand-deliver a copy of the Archbishop's Christmas Appeal Letter to parishioners as they leave Church.
