ArchbishopÔÇÖs Liturgical Launch of ÔÇ£Christmas┬áAppeal┬áfor LifeLinkÔÇØ for Parish┬áPriests and Appeal Representatives

Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB, joined by Auxiliary Bishop Donald Sproxton (Chairman, LifeLink), Rev Fr Peter Whitely (Vicar General) and Rev Dr Sean Fernandez (Dean, St MaryÔÇÖs Cathedral) warmly welcomed more than 140 parish priests, parish representatives and invited guests to a special Liturgical Service in support of the ArchbishopÔÇÖs annual ÔÇ£Christmas Appeal for LifeLinkÔÇØ.

The service this year included reflections taken from the discernment process of the Plenary Council 2020 and the Scriptures.

Liturgical Launch 1Archbishop Timothy said, ÔÇ£Almost 75% of all parishes were represented at my launch either by the parish priest, the parishÔÇÖs appeal representative or both for which I am indeed grateful ÔÇô especially as our launch date fell on the same day as the Melbourne Cup.

This annual Service is an opportunity for Bishop Don and I to thank everyone for the wonderful support they provide to this appeal each year, and most importantly, for us to join together to reflect on and pray for people struggling in our community who rely on our Church agencies for help.

My Christmas Appeal is the only fundraising event conducted in our parishes each year to help financially support the vitally important work of the ChurchÔÇÖs welfare agencies in this Archdiocese.ÔÇØ

Auxiliary Bishop and LifeLink Chair Don Sproxton said, ÔÇ£It is only through the ongoing support and assistance of our parish priests and appeal representatives that the ArchbishopÔÇÖs Christmas message is so successfully shared throughout the Archdiocese each year, and our people traditionally respond so generously.

This year, our LifeLink social service agencies will reach out to assist more than 34,000 Western Australian families and individuals in need. Collectively, our Church agencies will deliver a staggering $54 million in professional programmes and care throughout WA.

Whilst much of the funding our agencies receive is provided through Government grants and service contracts, we must continue to raise over $1.5 million each year to ensure our agencies continue their mission of care to the community.ÔÇØ

In his message to the Catholic community, Archbishop Costelloe said:┬áÔÇ£The release of my appeal message this year coincides with the ÔÇÿWorld Day of the PoorÔÇÖ announced by Pope Francis. Catholics around the world are asked to reflect on and reach out to our brothers and sisters in need, and when we do, that we truly see reflected the face of Jesus in those we help.

I ask every member of our Catholic community to please give generously to my appeal and help raise a minimum of $650,000 for people in need this Christmas.ÔÇØ

The ArchbishopÔÇÖs Christmas Appeal for LifeLink will be officially┬álaunched in all parishes on the weekend of Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 November 2019.

Archbishop Costelloe will personally launch his appeal via a video message, which parishes will screen on the weekend prior to the appeal launch ÔÇô 9/10 November┬á2019.
