Bishop Sproxton Hosts Liturgical Service for Parish Priests and Appeal Representatives

– Archbishop’s 2025 Christmas Appeal for LifeLink

With Archbishop Costelloe SDB on his way home from Rome, this year’s briefing event for parish priests and appeal representatives was hosted by Auxiliary Bishop and Chair of LifeLink, Donald Sproxton.

Bishop Sproxton warmly welcomed 130 parish priests, parish representatives, Agency Directors and invited guests to a special Liturgical Service at St Mary’s Cathedral on Thursday 30 October 2025.

During the 45-minute service, Bishop Don said to the parish priests and appeal representatives gathered, “This Appeal is the only occasion the Archbishop takes each year to directly ask – our parishes, parishioners and members of the Western Australian community – to support the important work of the Church’s welfare and social service agencies in the Archdiocese.

You are called on to encourage those in your communities to respond compassionately to the plight of our brothers and sisters who are struggling in the community. We are all also reminded to pray for the good people who staff, volunteer and manage the Lifelink agencies, they truly are a wonderful example of what it means to be “Pilgrims of Hope’”.

The Archbishop’s 2025 Christmas Appeal from LifeLink will commence this weekend in parishes throughout the Archdiocese, where every parish has been asked to show a special Video Message from the Archbishop to parishioners at the conclusion of each Mass on the weekend of 1 & 2 November 2025.

The following weekend – Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 November 2025 – will be the official APPEAL Weekend.

Every parish will launch His Grace’s appeal and conduct a special collection. The target for this year is to raise $750,000 for people in need this Christmas. Given last year’s record result of $730,000, we are hopeful that this will be achieved.

Following the Service, guests were invited to share hospitality with Bishop Sproxton in the Parish Centre. An opportunity for the Bishop to express his personal thanks to those who work so passionately on this appeal each year.
